چکیده

Abstract According to unconscious perception hypothesis (UP), mental states of the same fundamental kind as ordinary conscious seeing can occur unconsciously. The proponents UP often support it with empirical evidence for a more specific hypothesis, according which colours be seen unconsciously (UPC). However, UPC is general claim that admits many interpretations. main aim this paper determine them most plausible. To end, I investigate how adopting various conceptions colour and perceptual phenomenal character affects UPC’s resilience objections. This brings me conclusion plausible reading one (i) constituted by qua primitive mind-independent qualities environment (ii) not essentially tied consciousness. My only identifies interpretation UPC, but also highlights supports an unorthodox version relational theory perception, perfectly viable yet so far overlooked stance in debate about perception.

Playing chess unconsciously.

Expertise in a certain stimulus domain enhances perceptual capabilities. In the present article, the authors investigate whether expertise improves perceptual processing to an extent that allows complex visual stimuli to bias behavior unconsciously. Expert chess players judged whether a target chess configuration entailed a checking configuration. These displays were preceded by masked prime co...

Unconsciously Triggered Conflict Adaptation

In conflict tasks such as the Stroop, the Eriksen flanker or the Simon task, it is generally observed that the detection of conflict in the current trial reduces the impact of conflicting information in the subsequent trial; a phenomenon termed conflict adaptation. This higher-order cognitive control function has been assumed to be restricted to cases where conflict is experienced consciously. ...

Unconsciously elicited perceptual prior.

Increasing evidence over the past decade suggests that vision is not simply a passive, feed-forward process in which cortical areas relay progressively more abstract information to those higher up in the visual hierarchy, but rather an inferential process with top-down processes actively guiding and shaping perception. However, one major question that persists is whether such processes can be i...

Detecting Analogies Unconsciously

Analogies may arise from the conscious detection of similarities between a present and a past situation. In this functional magnetic resonance imaging study, we tested whether young volunteers would detect analogies unconsciously between a current supraliminal (visible) and a past subliminal (invisible) situation. The subliminal encoding of the past situation precludes awareness of analogy dete...
